Sir Richard Branson - Founder of Virgin

Sir Richard Branson founded Virgin in 1970 - it started off as a mail order record retailer. Today the Virgin Group is made up of around 200 companies spanning 30 countries with involvements in leisure, travel, tourism, mobile, broadband, TV, radio, music festivals, finance, health and more. Not bad for a guy who left school with "pretty well no qualifications"!

Chris Beasley, Chief Nursing Officer for England

Chris Beasley is the Chief Nursing Officer for England. She says "I'm the nurse that gives advice to government... a sort of visible leader of the profession throughout the country". Chris had wanted to be a nurse from a young age, and after taking a career break to raise a family she returned to the profession and began to climb the ladder to her current position.


 

Amanda Baber, Sales Executive, Baxter Storey

Sales Executive Amanda Baber left school at sixteen, did an NVQ in Business and started work as a receptionist. When she was made redundant from that company she found a career within a catering business and "started at the bottom", working her way up from Sales Administrator to Sales Executive with Baxter Storey.

Anoop Shinh is manager of Shinh Media, publisher of Ambition Magazine. "I really want to establish this magazine. It appeals to everybody who wants to be successful, who wants to be motivated". He started in field sales electronics- working his way up in sales. He saw the need for a magazine for someone like himself and developed the business idea.

 

Tom Dickerson, Sales Associate, Fidelity

Tom Dickerson is a Sales Associate for Fidelity. He left his first job selling shares because he didn't have confidence in what he was selling. But after a spell in Canada he moved back to the UK and started again. This time he's much more confident.
